Willard Library
Willard Library serves public library users in and around Battle Creek, Michigan. Established in 1840, it is one of the oldest libraries in Michigan. Willard is located at 7 West Van Buren Street in downtown Battle Creek. It circulates over 1.1 million items a year and has a $5.5 million operating budget. Collaboration with area agencies, businesses, and educational institutions is key to the operating philosophy of the library. Working with those groups has allowed the library to continually expand and improve service to its users.
Willard Library is organized as a District Library under Michigan Public Act 24 of 1989. The boundary of the Willard Library District follows the boundaries of the four local school districts -- Battle Creek, Harper Creek, Lakeview and Pennfield.
The library is governed by a five member Board of Trustees appointed by the school boards in the Battle Creek, Harper Creek, Lakeview, and Pennfield Districts. The members include Mr. Bob Ward, Trustee (Lakeview District); Mr. Harold Creekmur, Personnel Chair and Secretary (Pennfield District); Mr. James Keefer, President (Harper Creek District); Dr. Vernon Potts, Vice President (Battle Creek District); and Mrs. Elizabeth Settles, Treasurer (Battle Creek District).
